Garage door springs are one of the major components to a garage door. They are the counterbalance that enables hundreds of pounds of lift and alignment of your garage door. How long should a garage door spring last?
Torsion springs are rated by cycles. The average in Indianapolis in a residential application is 10,000 cycles. Each individual spring has its own properties. The size of the spring and the number of winds it has on it will determine the expected cycle count. For some families this means 10 years while others it may be 5 years. The big caveat in this equation is you are talking about a spring. Typically over time you will need to lubricate and adjust. Different types of springs need different care. As I’ve discussed in other articles, 90% of doors are underserviced including the garage door torsion spring. In order to get the max life out of a spring, whether that is 10K or 20k cycles they need proper maintenance. Garage door springs (torsion or extension) are not something that you install and/or replace and forget about for 10 plus years.

- Balance, adjust and lubricate door and then reset limits if motor operated.
- Our full packages as listed above typically come with a part and labor warranty that is discussed at the time of service. If not, that will be communicated during the initial inspection.
